What the number means

The checked D750 files contain ShutterCount. We label it as a recorded camera count; we do not rename it MechanicalShutterCount or derive a separate mechanical total.

Our D750 evidence covers NEF files. A JPEG reader is implemented for Nikon MakerNotes, but this guide does not claim a D750 JPEG or every firmware and mode has been checked.

If no count appears

Copy the NEF directly from the card. If you only have a JPEG, try the unchanged camera JPEG and check the result; an exported JPEG may have lost the required MakerNotes.

Can I check my D750 without connecting it by USB?

Yes, if you have an original with a readable counter. The three checked NEF files were read from photo metadata, without connecting a camera. Copy your own NEF from the card and select it in the checker.

Is the number in DSC_1234 the shutter count?

No. A filename or file sequence can roll over or be reset. Framecount uses the camera field in the file, not its name.
