Formats this version can inspect
| File | What to expect |
|---|---|
| JPEG / JPG | Original camera JPEGs can retain the required MakerNotes. Edited or shared copies may not. |
| NEF, ARW, PEF, DNG, CR2, TIFF | TIFF-based metadata is read locally. A readable container still needs a matching camera counter layout. |
| RAF | The Fujifilm reader can inspect supported metadata layouts. ImageCount is not a lifetime mechanical total. |
| CR3 | Selected Canon models and single-frame layouts. Multi-frame RAW containers are not supported. |
| HEIC, video, PNG, screenshots | No shutter-count reader in this version. Use a supported camera original. |
Maximum file size: 256 MiB. Framecount reads metadata; it does not develop or render the RAW image.
Keep the original intact
- Copy from the memory card or use a transfer option that explicitly preserves the original file.
- Avoid exporting through a photo editor before checking.
- For a JPEG + RAW pair, try the format with evidence for your exact camera first.
- Do not convert a JPEG to RAW or change the extension to make it appear supported.
A parser is not a support guarantee
The compatibility directory separates implemented file families from formats actually checked with public originals. A TIFF label in a technical record may refer to the container inside a NEF or ARW, rather than a photo editor’s exported .tif.
