Check the model before the extension
Framecount supports selected Canon metadata layouts, including an EOS R5 CR3 path with public-file comparisons. That does not establish support for every Canon JPEG, CR2 or CR3 file.
For a listed model
- Copy a fresh, original file from the card.
- Use the format with public-file evidence for that model.
- Choose the file in Framecount. The recorded model selects the reader; selecting a different model in the directory cannot unlock a missing count.
- If there is no count, keep it as unknown. Do not substitute a filename, image sequence or an invented zero.
What if I only have a JPEG?
Try the untouched camera JPEG if your model has a reading path, and follow the result’s explanation. A photo can contain exposure settings and a Canon model name while lacking a readable counter. Converting that JPEG to CR2, CR3 or TIFF will not add the missing field.
For the EOS R5, start with the checked CR3 format. Troubleshoot a missing count.
When an image-based checker is not enough
Some cameras need a model-specific USB utility or an appropriate service route instead of a photo-based check. Verify exact model and operating-system compatibility with the provider before paying or connecting. Framecount does not offer USB detection or send your photo to a server as a fallback.
